"CHARACTER ASSASINATION IS A CHEAP SHOT"
Character assassination is like a drive-by shooting, when bullets are sprayed at random in the dark. Our words can be almost as devastating as bullets.
A certain Pastor was doing his best to preach the Word but someone in the congregation didn't like him. The anonymous critic would drop unsigned notes in the offering plate. As the rhetoric become more intense, the Pastor grew increasingly frustrated. The final straw came when he received a note with the word-STUPID- scrawled in large letters across the entire page.
The next week, the Pastor announced from the pulpit,” Recently, I have received several unsigned letters from people criticizing my sermons, but this past week I received one from someone who signed his name but forgot to write the letter." the Pastor held up the page with the word STUPID written on it, and everyone had a good laugh. Never give credence to charges that are so weak that the instigator refuses to attach his name to them.
A historian once signed his name in very large letters, and when he was asked why he had written so large, he replied, "So that the King, with his failing eyesight could see my name."
I have news for you, friend. The King of Kings has perfect eyesight, and He beholds everything we do, say, or write-whether we put our name on it or not. "Nothing in al creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and lay bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account" (Heb 4:13).
The Bible gives us a framework for dealing with genuine issues of wrongdoing. In Matthew 18:15; Jesus tells us to confront the individual directly. If this doesn't resolve the issue, take someone else with you as a witness to your testimony. If even that doesn't work, Jesus said to confront the wrongdoer openly before the church. Solomon said, "Do not rebuke a mocker or he will hate you; rebuke a wise man and he will love you." Proverbs 9:8. But never are we given license to
