Thats My Mom

Scripture: Proverbs 31:28 “Her children rise up and bless her!”

Reflection: A Godly mom is highly favored of the Lord. She is not one who is selfish; she displays a life of unselfishness to her family because God has taught her to love as He loves. To show God’s love is one of the greatest disciplines a mom can ever learn, yet it will destine her to a life of honor and respect from her children. A mom is a prayer warrior fighting in prayer for her children.

There is a lot I would like to say about moms, but the page of a devotional does not allow me to do so. My cry is for you, Mothers, to listen to God’s heart and be there for your children. Let them see Godly attributes lived out through you.

Someone has said that if we were given a generation of Christian mothers, the face of our society would change in twelve months. Lincoln said about his mother, “No man is poor who has a godly mother.”

The one we should truly honor on mother’s day, and every day, is the Lord, because He is the one who puts the qualities of Godliness into Motherhood. Without Christ, there would be no Godly mothers.

I would like to call upon the words of a man named Lamuel in Proverbs chapter 31. He was a King who had a Godly mother. God has put this chapter in writing. It has forever been etched into the ageless record of God’s book, so that the sands of time could never erase it. The King left us with the counsel of a godly mother.

Every verse in Proverbs 31 is valuable; however, allow me to pull out a few verses in Proverbs 31:26-31; “She opens her mouth in wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and bless her; her husband also, and he praises her, saying, "Many daughters have done nobly, but you excel them all." Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised. Give her the product of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.” (NASB)

God has blessed women with one of the highest honors on this planet and that is to have children. God’s word tells us that children are a gift from God. We get to love and nurture them for a short while, and then we watch them grow up to have a life of their own. Yet, our role as a mom is never finished when they leave the nest; we get to keep on praying and believing God to take care of them. There is nothing as special as a mom who stays in prayer over her children. Mom, the world may never applaud you, but one day your children will stand and called you blessed. I cannot think of any thing more rewarding than our children saying “My mom is the Godliest woman I know.” They have felt the heartwarming love of mom with the words, "I love you," expressed in voice and deed. They have heard her pray faithfully and live daily a life that reveals God. They have seen her sacrifice when others would not. This kind of mom speaks words of kindness and affirmation in a negative world. She is there for her children, to hear them cry and laugh. Never was this Godly woman an absentee in the life of her children.

I am convinced that if moms will keep their love and respect for God as top priority, they will have a testimony that says, “I did it God’s way.”

Prayer: Father, in the name of Jesus, may the moms of this world turn their eyes upon you. Let them see that there is no security in this present world system. The security that we must seek comes from another kingdom, the kingdom of God. Give them wisdom to train those precious ones in the way you want them to go. I ask, Father, that selfish ambition and self-seeking pleasures will not take precedence over their children. God, my heart's cry is that moms will come to you and walk uprightly before you. Open our eyes to see what the enemy is seeking to do with our generation. We must seek your face if we want to save this generation. In the Name of Jesus. Amen.

Psalm 127:3;
“Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward.”

Psalm 147:13;
“For He has strengthened the bars of your gates; He has blessed your children within you.”

Proverbs 22:6;
Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.

Proverbs 29:15;
To discipline a child produces wisdom, but a mother is disgraced by an undisciplined child. (NLB)

Let me challenge you to look at Proverbs 31:10-31. God spoke to my heart many years ago about memorizing these verses. They have stayed in my heart since that day. I challenge you to study and memorize them too.

Blessed is the Mother...
Who can hold onto her children while letting them go;
Who puts a tranquil home ahead of an immaculate house;
Who knows a kind act will be remembered longer than an easy word;
Who really believes that prayer changes things;
Whose faith in the future sweetens the present;
Whose Bible never needs dusting; and
Whose sense of humor is alive and well.
